Reading experimentation in this laboratory has examined effects of letter spacings and size in word perception, syllabification and word recognition rate, and the word-letter effect. Visual selective attention research has investigated both temporal and display parameters of attentional processes, including number and proximity of display elements, width of attentional focus, and focusing time. The work on perception and discrimination of visual displays has examined target letter recognition as a function of various parameters and types of distracting noise elements. A model of the processing of complex displays has been recently published that emphasizes the continuous flow nature of information processing as opposed to discrete stage models. |
