The Psychology Major

The Psychology major is just part of what you'll need to graduate from UIUC. General Education courses and electives (courses you take for fun, to develop a skill, or for requisite pre-professional courses) will make up your entire UIUC academic experience.

In order to graduate with a Psychology major, the following requirements must be met:

32 Hours Psychology Required (coursework with “PSYC” rubric) _______________________________________________________________

  • PSYC 235
  • PSYC 301 (This course is recommended for students interested in pursuing Ph.D. work in Psychology)

  • *NOTE: These statistics courses will fulfill the statistics requirement but the hours will not count toward your 32 PSYC hours. Statistics courses not shown above will be reviewed for equivalency status.

Complete at least 12 hours of 300- or 400-level Psychology courses. All research methods/lab courses listed above will count toward this requirement. Consult the Course Catalog to view possible advanced courses. ______________________________________________________________ SUPPORTING COURSEWORK

Complete course work outside psychology that will complement the core program. 12 Hours of supporting course work approved through consultation with a Psychology advisor in Room 10 Psychology Building.

Supporting course work could be:

* a declared minor
* a second major
* pre-law interest
* pre-med courses
* specific graduate school preparation
